As the first Japanese restaurant in Gainesville, FL, Miya Sushi remains true to traditional Japanese and Korean culture while appealing to the contemporary western tastebuds of America. For this restaurant rebrand and menu design, I referenced traditional Japanese wrapping, the common bento box, and today’s urban Tokyo hustle-bustle.
The abstracted logomark spells Miya with divisions derived from the separations of a bento box. The graphic forms align to reference the active urban Tokyo street grid. The menu unfolds, guiding the customer through his or her meal. Printed on inexpensive newsprint, the customer makes marks to easily communicate the meal and sushi choices.
